British pulling out from Basra...

Ever since Gordon replaced Blair as the PM, there were mounting calls to pull back 'our lads' (local terms) from the madness in Iraq. So when the British did actually pull out from Basra Palace a few days back, there were calls of victory on both sides; the British patted themselves on the back for being able to hand the reins over to the local commanders AND the insurgents for succeeding in driving out the 'infidels'.

The local newspapers reports of bravado put up by the British forces. I'm sure the 'insurgents' have their version of it.
