Chanced upon this diner featured in Lonely Planet for New York City. Can't recall the name but I think it's called Candy Shop (or something like that). Far from selling candy, it's actually this old style diner. We decided to pop in for a 'soda'.
The owner is a guy in this early 50s. The reason why we know that he's the owner is because he's the one with the most sour face among the staff, so he better be the owner... Anyway, the food was rather normal. I think the selling point is the decoration, which seem frozen in time (may bring back some memories for some). I ordered a rootbeer, mainly because it seems like the right thing to do. Skipped the option to have an ice-cream on top as that will bring the price to around US$4. But really, compared to London, the prices are still rather reasonable.

Diner frozen in time...
