Long live the Queen and her Prince!

Just watched the the celebration of the Diamond Anniversary of the wedding between Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip that was telcasted live on BBC One. In many ways, it was just like 60 years ago, in 1947 when they were pronounced as man and wife. It was just 2 years after the war and their union gave the British public, which was ravaged by the war, much hope. Due to the rationing exercise back then, gifts were far from lavish and many of the commonwealth nations gave food items that include loads of can food. A great portion of that were distributed to the British people with handwritten notes from the royal couple.

60 years on, a toned down celebration was held to commerate the event. Now with Prince Charles, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Williams and Prince Harry in tow, the dignified couple made their way down through the West door of Westminster Abbey. Throughout the hour long ceremony, no words were exchanged between the couple, I suspect the protocol demanded that of them.

However, when it all ends, Prince Philip whispered some words into the Queen's ear and she returned a warm smile. That, to me, was the highlight of the entire ceremony. All the best for many years to come, from a Singaporean in London.
