Policing the state...

Immigration has its benefits, among which are the jobs that are created because cheaper labour is available. Of course, it frees up citizens to do value added ones as well. A housewife is able to work now that affordable childcare is available. More jobs means more taxes and thus increasing the size of the pie that can be spread around. That's the ideal case.

The Labour Government painted a bleaker picture of the labour (pun unintended) market recently. A million additional jobs were filled by foreigners while there are half a million jobs lesser available to UK citizens in the same time frame. Thus simple arithmetic shows that the locals are losing jobs to foreigners.

It doesn't help that there's a significant number of British youngsters who dropped out of school at 16 years old and simply roam the streets thereafter. Thus foreigners are not only filling up the low end jobs, the higher end ones are going to them as well.

The Labour Government is pondering over a bill that will allow youngsters to court if they refuse to stay in school (including apprentice schools) until they're 18. If convicted, they'll be facing a fine. But then again, come to think of it, these are the people who cannot pay the fine. So what gives?

While the Labour is lumbering about the decision, the Tories are waiting by the sidelines ready to pounce.
