Tap water please...

Singaporeans will generally find the tap water in UK to be somewhat distasteful. That's unless you have a habit of dissolving a calcium tablet in your glass of tap water back home. Thus as a general rule, we try to avoid the tap water and choose instead for filtered water (at home) or bottled mineral water (when out).

We drew the line in eateries and restaurants. There was this article in ST Online that claims that British are too 'scared' into asking for free tap water and elect instead for the overpriced bottle of either still or fizzy mineral water in restaurants. Well, driven by the disparity in Sterling pounds and Singapore dollar, we swallowed our pride and ask for 'free tap water' in discreet every time we eat out.

Hey come on, you can't blame us for that. But then again, I understand that some restaurants in Singapore no longer serve 'plain water'. Oh well...
