Top Gear

Was reading Mr the other day (my local fix) and came across this posting on the British (BBC) program 'Top Gear'. He placed some youtube clips, which I believe were promptly removed due to copyright issues.

Well, I was particularly interested because Wife and I watched that exact episode on tv. For the unintiated, Top Gear (TG) is a weekly program that serves the fantasies of post war generation especially males in their 30s to 50s. Come on, stop what you're thinking, it's not that, you pervert.

As I was saying, TG is all about machines, fast ones at that; planes, boats, cars, bicycles... you name it. As long as it moves, you'll bound to find it in the show. It's hosted by a couple of guys in their 40s or early 50s (see what I mean?) whose sole aim is to drive fast machines for the heck of it. Talking about being paid to do the stuff that you enjoy.

That particular episode showcased a race through Central London using four modes of transport: A spacewagon, a motorboat (how come I'm not surprised) through Thames, a bicycle and Underground trains. Well, the outcome was rather... interesting. The bicycle clinched it, followed by the boat, train and finally the spacewagon, which was stuck in the traffic.

The moral of the story? It's time to clear the dust off that trusty bike, people.
