Betting at the Horse Race

The Royal Ascot is here again. Reputed to be the most famous horse race in the world that goes back to 1711. The annual summer event attracts more than 300,000 race enthusiasts every year.

Now, you must think that the horses will be the main attraction in this 5 day event. That cannot be further from the truth, in fact, I've never seen horse (or their jockies) featured on TV reports a single time since it started.

Instead, the people are more interested in the item that will adorn the Queen's head. Betting houses across London have been accepting bets on whether the Queen would be wearing a traditional hat, carefully coordinated with her suit, which she is famous for, or a 'fascinator' that is the dresscode of many ladies (see picture on the right) adhered to.

All bets were off just before the Queen arrived at the racecourse. The Queen, to the disappointment of many, arrived in a pale blue ensemble.

There you go, another reason why the Monarch should stay.

Betting on the Queen's accessories! That's hilarious! :D

I'm fascinated by the fact that the gents and ladies are all wearing so formal to these events.

@kyh,
Like I said, it's the hats and formal attire that make it a much publicised event. :)

Oh.. that is one of the reason why I'm missing London for all the eccentricities going on there! Keep reporting.. :P

@ecl,
I think the greatest thing is the cool breezy weather that makes headwear more necessary.

Can you imagine sweating under the hat in S'pore? Hmm...

@lina,
Oh yes and the best thing is that it's legalised! That also means that you'll be tax by the Crown if you win. Haha...

I got this feeling that you know of London's happening more than me. It seems more than once that you get the news faster than me. :0
