Hyde Park Winter Wonderland - bigger and better festive cheer all round

With all the violent protests and strikes that plagued London for the past month, we can all do with a bit of Christmas cheer, can't we? What else other than a visit to the largest Christmas Fair in London? For reasons now forgotten, we missed the Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park last year and we were determined not to do the same this year round. With the Little One strapped on, we headed out to Hyde Park over the weekend.

Two main Tube stations serve Hyde Park; Marble Arch station opens up to, well, Marble Arch and Speakers' Corner, while Hyde Park Corner station is located at the southeastern edge of Hyde Park. That should be the one that you should be alighting if you're travelling by London Underground. The main fair itself has always been located quite a walk away from Marble Arch.

Anyway, what struck me was that the Winter Wonderland this year is much larger than the previous ones that we have been to. Not only there are more game and food stalls, there are more rides both catering to kids and adults too. Having gotten ourselves some piping hot nutella doused churros, we took a slow stroll though the fair, marvelling at the thrill rides and gawking at the Christmas wares. Memories of my first visit to a theme park (the name was Wonderland as well, I think) back home in Kallang flooded back. I almost felt like a kid again. Only this time round, I have one strapped in front of me.

Honestly, these photos don't do Winter Wonderland justice. Why not head down there this weekend and see for yourself? The fair will last till 4th January 2011.
